v e g a s : just a girl

I was lucky to go on a trip to Vegas with my best girlfriend Melissa, as an early birthday present from my husband! It was my first time leaving Azrielle overnight, which gave me some anxiety beforehand, but we both did great & had a fun weekend separately. Having been to Vegas a handful of times, I'd already seen most of the hotels on the Strip & visited Downtown on previous trips. Melissa hadn't been there in 10 years, so we went to our favorite places as well as discovering a new area neither of us had been to before, the Arts District. My kind of Vegas trip vibe is less 'drinking + gambling' & all about 'good food, window shopping, pool time & fun shows'.
Hard Rock Hotel is my Vegas home. Aside from having great memories there (it's where I got engaged!), it's just my favorite place to call home base. This trip we stayed at Planet Hollywood because that's where the Gwen show was, which was convenient when we were all tired out from dancing & singing our hearts out. We had a view of the Bellagio fountains from our room, and enjoyed the accessibility to the Strip. It was different for me to to stay in the middle of everything, I prefer the more laid-back & less crowded vibe at the Hard Rock. Also noticed what a pleasant smell they have pumping in the Casino there... sort of peachy vanilla that made visiting the HRH even more yummy.
Arts District for vintage shopping - west coast vintage has such a different vibe than east coast... more hawaii-inspired things, as well as 60's amazingness from Hollywood & the desert. Our favorite store was Patina Decor. Also cool murals on buildings in the District. Swoon! Personally I prefer this laidback area to going downtown.
The Nirvana pool at the Hard Rock has a sandy beach that fades into the pool. Can't beat a palm-tree beach in the middle of the desert.
Gwen Stefani : Just a Girl. If you're a fan of hers it's a MUST. She rocked it, owned it, with such an energetic, magnetic connection to the crowd. Best show I've seen in Vegas. From the costumes, to the energy, to the merch & displays from her personal collection of music video outfits, Gwen still turns everything she touches to sparkling gold.
Plan your outfits for Vegas! I love to get out all of my sparkly, studded, sequined & beaded pieces to wear in Vegas (along with some supplements from Rent the Runway). There are lots of people walking the strip in their t-shirts and sneakers (aka tourist-wear ;) ) But, why not dress it up? Like going to the theater in NY & seeing lots of tourist-wear instead of the days when people would get dressed up for it, getting glammed up is becoming a lost art. It is possible to elevate your style & still be comfortable :) Something to think about when you're packing!
Visit the Neon Museum - So different & fun! I've been twice during the daytime, once for a tour and this time for general admission which is a self-guided tour with docents available to answer questions. It wasn't crowded on a 100 degree sunny day. We took breaks in the shade & drank water. Next time I'd like to go around dusk, to be able to see the lit up signs better. One of the most famous things there is the Moulin Rouge lettering that's been re-organized to spell 'in love' - a favorite place for lovers or newlyweds to take pictures.
A NOTE ABOUT TAXIS
Use cash if you can - there's a $3 surcharge for swiping a card. Also, Uber is a good alternative and usually costs less than traditional taxis.
Have you been to Vegas? Let me know what your favorites are too! xM
